PowerArts productions have enjoyed exceptional critical success.  2010 saw Wicked  winning six Helpmann awards (including Best Musical), and Chicago’s Sharon Millerchip winning Best performance by an Actress in a Musical. Metro Street was nominated for a host of awards including Best New Australian Work. 

Last year's Helpmanns, PowerArts were heavily represented once again.  Avenue Q won five awards including Best Direction (Jonathon Biggins), , Best Male Actor (Mitchell Butel – ‘Princeton’/’Rod’), Best Female Actor (Michala Banas – ‘Kate Monster’/’Lucy the Slut’), Best Supporting Male Actor (Luke Joslin – ‘Trekkie’/’Nicky’), and Best Supporting Female Actor (Chrissie O’Neill – ‘Christmas Eve’).  It was also nominated for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography (Nathan M. Wright), 

We’re also very proud of Fame the Musical, which won a Helpmann for Best Choreography (Kelly Abbey) and was nominated for Best Supporting Female Actor (Jaz Flowers – ‘Mabel Washington’).  

This year's Helpmann Nominations were announced on July 4, and Doctor Zhivago was nominated for 7 awards, including Best Musical, Best DIrector(Des McAnuff), Best Choreographer(Kelly Divine), Best Male Actor(Anthony Warlow),Best Female Actor (Lucy Maunder), Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role(Martin Crewes), and Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role(Taneel Van Zyl).

Wicked's Jemma Rix(Best Female Actor) and David Harris(Best Male Actor) were also nominated, which made for an exciting night of awards for PowerArts!

The 2012 Helpmann awards were held at the Sydney Opera House on Monday 1st August at 8pm, and a huge congratulations goes out to all nominees and winners.
