Wicked

Long before Dorothy dropped in, the extraordinary adventures of two sorcery students in Oz ultimately saw them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and The Wicked Witch of the West.

Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire that re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, Wicked tells the story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls: One, born with emerald-green skin, smart, fiery and misunderstood; the other, beautiful, ambitious and very popular.

With songs and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Emmy-Award winning writer, Winne Holzman, Wicked was nominated for ten 2004 Tony Awards, winning those for Best Actress (Idina Menzel), Scenic Design and Costume Design. It also won six Drama Desk Awards and an Olivier Award, and has broken box office records around the world, holding weekly-gross-takings records in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis, and the record for biggest opening in the West End.

With sellout seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and finally Perth, and after 1144 Australian performances, this spectacular production, produced by John Frost, had an emotional closing night at the Burswood Casino on Sunday, September 11th last year, in front of a die-hard, fan-filled audience. Perth- born star Lucy Durack took her final bow as Glinda, as Durack's replacement, Perth actress Suzie Mathers, wowed the crowd by coming out in full costume.

Singapore audiences got a thrilling surprise as Ms Durack made a guest appearance once more as Glinda for the opening night on Dec 7th. Now with a new Australian cast, this highly acclaimed production will run until April and continue to wow audiences in Korea soon after.
