Dare Power

Dare has spent a lot of time considering cinema and the performing arts. At the University of Queensland in the early nineties, he spent almost as much time at the Schonell Theatre as he did attending classes. Graduating with Honours, Dare’s studies were heavily focused upon drama, media and, most significantly, popular cinema.

Later, Dare would undertake his Masters degree in Film and Television at the Gold Coast’s Bond University, a large part of which was an internship with Assistant Director teams working on television drama at the Warner Roadshow Studios.  For a number of years, Dare worked as a freelancer on numerous film and television projects in varying crew roles in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney.

Dare’s passion for the growth and development of the Australian creative industries were also well attested to by his past involvement on the Boards of Queensland’s screen industry development centre QPIX, and the Queensland Arts Council. He currently sits on the Board of the Australasian Dance Collective, and is a trustee for the Queensland Performing Arts Complex(QPAC).

More recently, he completed his Executive MBA with the Australian Graduate School of Management, and PowerArts represents an opportunity for Dare to put all of his study into practice. Whilst balancing his position as Group Executive Director – People and Process for the BMD Group, he continues to offer his services as an executive producer to productions for stage and screen, and maintains his position as a key decision maker on investment decisions for PowerArts.
