Metro Street

Starring theatrical veterans Nancye Hayes and Debra Byrne, Metro Street exposes the reality of three generations bound by blood and stretched by a modern world that insists on changing daily.

With a fresh, contemporary score and instantly recognisable characters, Metro Street is both revitalising and deeply moving.

Aside from his diverse career as a performer, WAAPA graduate Matthew Robinson has also written for York Theatre Company (NYC), Sydney’s ATYP and Darlinghurst Theatre Company, the La Salle Musical Theatre Program in Singapore, and Magnormos’ Ozmade Musicals. After multiple readings, workshops and rewrites in his adopted hometown of Melbourne, Robinson’s recent work, Metro Street, won the prestigious Pratt Prize in 2004, and had a successful showing at the highly respected Cabaret Festival in Adelaide. Interest was soon picked up by the State Theatre Company of South Australia, who collaborated with Arts Asia Pacifc and PowerArts to present the world premiere production at the Dunstan Playhouse in April 2009.

After a successful run in both Adelaide and at the Daegu International Musical Festival, plans are hopeful to present this wonderfully Australian piece as a national tour, with possible international productions in the not too distant future.
