Annie

Based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip, Little Orphan Annie, Annie the musical was an instant hit from its opening in 1977, running for six years on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre.

With music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and the book by Thomas Meehan, it spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, it won the Tony Award for Best Musical, and went on to become a world-wide smash-hit movie musical starring Aileen Quinn, Albert Finney, Bernadette Peters and Carol Burnett.

Reprising one of his all-time favourite roles as the charismatic and sophisticated Daddy Warbucks, Anthony Warlow joined the ever-popular Nancye Hayes playing everyone’s favourite villain Miss Hannigan. Todd McKenney, Chloë Dallimore (The Producers) and Julie Goodwin (West Side Story) also brought their talents to this classic musical, which delighted the dancer in us all. And as a special treat, radio star Alan Jones also joined the cast for his performance debut in the role of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

With familiar tunes such as “Tomorrow” and “It’s a Hard-Knock Life”, this show remains one of the most loved classics of all time, and played to packed houses throughout Australia, late 2012, with Mamma MiaMichael Cormack and the “Old Moonface”, Bert Newton joining the all-star cast toward the end of the run, replacing Mr Warlow and Alan Jones respectively.
